Talking about OMEGA’s new 2021 watches

Among the big Swiss brands, Omega was the first to reveal its new watches for 2021, and of course it was the online launch. I didn’t expect the main attraction this year to be the Seamaster 300, but personally I think the unintentional Speedmaster Velcro strap is the best looking one.

Launched in 1957 alongside the first Speedmaster and Railmaster, the Seamaster 300 can be seen as OMEGA’s first ever professional dive watch, with its black dial, luminous hour markers and wide, large arrow hands and advanced water resistance system combined with OMEGA’s first dive bezel for excellent readability, and has become the inspiration for several of OMEGA’s historic In 2014, OMEGA relaunched the Seamaster 300 watch collection, which has been relentlessly produced and promoted over the years, but has not been very well received in the retail market.

Omega is not a brand that gives up lightly, and in 2021 actually new firepower is put into the new Seamaster 300, with a more evolved, retro shape and an upgraded movement with full META certification, it seems that O will not rest until it has become the counterpart to the Rolex Aquatimer.

The new steel model features a 41mm stainless steel case and a narrower bezel that has been replaced by an aluminium one, which is more resistant to the elements, but personally I think it’s more of a cost-saving exercise. By reducing the width of the bezel, the dial has been increased from 29.5 mm to 30.4 mm. The stainless steel bracelet now has further improvements in terms of fit and finish. A leather strap with a new pin buckle is also available. The brand claims that the new Seamaster 300 is thinner, at just 13.85 mm – a debatable point, as a watch with a simple large three-hand function is as thick as any other brand of chronograph.

The black or blue dial now has a so-called “sandwich” structure, which is a bit Panerai-esque, with two layers, the bottom one with Super-LumiNova and the second plate above the top, which displays luminous hour markers and numerals through cut-outs. In keeping with the vintage style, replica Omega watches has used the Arabic numeral format used on the early Seamaster 300 models from the 1960s. The dial now has a much cleaner look, with no date function window and the only text on the dial being the Omega logo and the Seamaster 300 name. This is definitely a big step forward for Omega. Another focal point of the new dial is the lollipop central seconds hand, the tip of which is now coated with Super-LumiNova (stainless steel models only).

The screw-down caseback features a wave-edge design and displays the Omega Co-Axial calibre 8912 through a flat sapphire crystal. Oscillating at 3.5 Hz and offering a power reserve of 60 hours, it benefits from METAS certification and is resistant to magnetic fields of 15,000 gauss. The new Omega Seamaster 300 stainless steel bracelet is priced at €6,200.

Seamaster 300 Bronze Gold

The new Seamaster 300 collection also features an innovative material, Seamaster 300 Bronze Gold, which is the first Omega watch to be made from a patent-pending copper-gold alloy. The brand claims that this new alloy, in addition to its soft pink hue, offers excellent resistance to corrosion during wear without causing oxidation of the copper-green colour and will therefore age slowly and retain its natural and beautiful copper-green colour over a longer period of time.

The essence of this alloy is the slightly newer 9-carat gold, 37.5% gold content in 9-carat gold since ancient times, 100 years ago in 9-carat gold in addition to the element gold is the rest of copper, now Omega’s new 9-carat gold in order to prevent corrosion mixed with palladium, the patent lazy to look up, in general, are specialized in precious metal smelting company developed, I guess this is no exception.

The bezel of this model is made of brown ceramic and has the vintage Super-LumiNova indexes of a diving watch. And the dial is made of a dark brown-toned plain bronze alloy (CuSn8) with a special ageing treatment.

Like the steel version, the Seamaster 300 Bronze Gold is powered by the 8912 movement and comes with a full 5-year warranty. It retails for €11,500, a price that is somewhat less expensive than the average brass watch, but why not buy an 18-carat gold one if you can afford a gold watch?

Seamaster Diver 300M All Black

I was expecting OMEGA to launch an all-ceramic version of the Seamaster. The all-black ceramic Seamaster 300M takes the dark route, the Seamaster Black Black reminiscent of the Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon, and is typical of OMEGA in terms of quality and technology. Its exterior is almost entirely ceramic, consisting of components that have been precisely sintered, engraved and frosted.

The caseback is also made of black ceramic and showcases the brand’s patented Naiad Lock system with its wave-edge design. You will also find OMEGA’s Co-Axial calibre 8806, which is magnetically resistant to 15,000 gauss and offers a power reserve of 55 hours. Priced at €8,650. The only question is: how do I read the time when diving?

Constellation small seconds

Four new women’s watches have been introduced in the Constellation collection: including a 34 mm case size and a striking new peacock blue dial, a stainless steel bracelet ($7,600),replica watches a caramel-coloured 18-carat Sedna gold and stainless steel bracelet ($10,900), a mother-of-pearl pink leather strap (price to be confirmed) and a Burgundy ($35,700 for the 18-carat Sedna gold bracelet, $22,800 for the Burgundy leather strap). for US$22,800). Another new feature for 2021: small diamonds are placed around the small seconds dial markers and, for the diamond bezel models, the dial is also surrounded by large diamonds. A ring of diamonds has also been added to the subdials and to the central minute track.

I am an amateur when it comes to women’s watches, especially diamond-set ones, and will not comment much on them.

Speedmaster Moonwatch Velcro strap

Finally, OMEGA and NASA have joined forces to release three 20mm Velcro straps in black, silver and white to celebrate OMEGA’s shared legacy in space exploration.

The large and bulky space suits meant that it was impossible to wear watches with metal bracelets or leather straps – only the Velcro straps were versatile enough to be adjusted on the fly to suit the conditions.

You don’t have to be an astronaut to benefit from the strap’s adjustability: the comfort and ease of adjustment they offer means they can also be made into quality straps for sport, work and travel.

Whatever colour you choose, the price of these new straps is set at CHF 190. Arguably, this is the best looking Omega boy in the house this year. Anyone can afford it and anyone can wear it, so why not?
